Essay – Cognition

Have you heard “open your heart” far too many times? Do these words sicken you?

Well, let me give you a rational argument why you should try.

When you open your heart, your cognitive capacity expands. Not doubles. It “squares”.

Rational thinking is only linear. It’s the domain of real numbers, if we look to maths for a parallel.

But the science has figured out that our physical heart holds another set of neurons, a second brain.

When you open your heart, you start using your second brain. You gain the ability to think in both horizontal (rational) and vertical (irrational) coordinates, your thinking becomes non-linear, you enter the domain of complex numbers.

But it’s also dangerous to linear thinking. Because once you open your heart, you cannot keep thinking in the same direction. You cannot think linearly, you think diagonally, with complex comprehension.

You begin to understand more relations, the broader context, you see an even bigger picture.

Do you want a larger thinking capacity? Begin using your emotions, your heart, your imagination. And compassion.
